Step into Oman:

This was an identity design project where my task was to rebrand a country and design promotional material to encourage tourism to the country.

I chose to design for Oman, with a more senior target audience in mind.

After researching into Oman as a country, I learnt about its landscape, history and culture, which people may not be so aware-of due to the country's more negative connotations. The problem I wanted to solve with this project was to highlight what makes Oman unique and worth visiting, in attempt to suppress negative views around the country.

In doing this, I split my focus into 5 categories: culture, adventure, heritage, serenity and history. Oman is a country with a rich culture, full of history and tradition. As well as this, the country is home to a range of uniquely beautiful landscapes; mountains, deserts and natural pools.

These images show some of the thinking and planning behind the poster series. As my target audience were slightly older, more mature and somewhat sophisticated, I decided that a photographic approach was most appropriate; this enabled me to present aspects of Oman clearly, making the tone of voice much clearer. The photographs also created a more formal style, which also worked well for my target audience of more-mature people.

I experimented with a range of different shapes for the white border, coming to the conclusion that the 'L' shape was the most interesting while leaving the most photograph on-show, as well as giving the typography enough space to breathe and stand prominently.

A logo was also designed within this project, to be used within the poster series. I wanted this logo to visualise Oman's rich culture and heritage, as this was my brand's main USP (Unique Selling Point).

Within my research, I found that Oman is a country where Arabic and English are the two primary languages of the country, which represents how the country has developed and grown while still carrying its heritage and culture.

Arabic is a language that was typically hand-scripted, creating beautiful calligraphy. This visualises the richness of the culture and history, and would appeal strongly to my target audience. So, for my logo, I decided to take this combined-language idea and experimented with the delicate and artistic Arabic calligraphy alongside this modern English, creating an intertwined style. This logo was applied to the poster series, with the titles of the posters carrying the same style.
